R&H Suburb Profile LAKE CATHIE

Lake Cathie (pronounced Lake Cat-eye), is a small resort and fishing village on the North Coast of NSW, about 25 minutes drive south of Port Macquarie. It has a permanent population of about 2000.

Lake Cathie is regarded as a friendly community and is a popular holiday destination thanks to its tranquil location on the shores of a shallow tidal lagoon. The village is minutes from a surf beach and is a short drive from the popular resort district of Camden Haven and Crowdy Bay National Park.

The large saltwater lake is the second largest estuarine salt marsh area in NSW. Periodically opened to the sea, the warm shallow waters are ideal for young children and there are lots of picnic tables and BBQs on the shore.

Lake Cathie has a supermarket, tavern, bowling club, bakery, fish and chip shop, coffee shop, pharmacy, post office, a newsagent and a bargain shop.

There are bus services between Lake Cathie and Port Macquarie, as well as services between Sydney and Brisbane that stop in the town.

Schools are in nearby North Haven, Laurieton and Port Macquarie. Hospitals and the major shopping precinct are in Port Macquarie.
