R&H Suburb Profile SEMAPHORE

Semaphore is a north-western seaside suburb of Adelaide located 14km from the CBD. It is part of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and is essentially a residential suburb. Semaphore's white sands, family-friendly shallows and colourful foreshore make for a classic Adelaide beach lifestyle.

There is a large expanse of green foreshore preserved for recreation. Activities include mini-golf, waterslides, a vintage carousel and Ferris wheel, cycling tracks, steam train rides and more.  Semaphore's beach is one of the busiest on the LeFevre Peninsula, and is serviced by a jetty and a surf lifesaving club. It is also served by a council library and a small cinema.

From the end of the jetty you can see the Timeball Tower, the oldest working carousel in the southern hemisphere, as well as the 1920s Palais bathing pavilion and historical buildings along Semaphore Road. Semaphore Road is one of Adelaide's widest boulevards. Trendy boutiques sit alongside famous old pubs. Modern cafes occupy century-old buildings. Funky cafes site next to pubs, offering a mix of fine dining and fish and chips.

The area is served by the Catholic Dominican Primary School. The closest public primary school is LeFevre Primary School in Birkenhead and the local high school is LeFevre High School in Semaphore South.
