R&H Suburb Profile PALM BEACH

The Northern Beaches is an informal term used to describe the northern coastal suburbs of Sydney, NSW. The Northern Beaches district is usually considered to be the area of the Northern Beaches Statistical Subdivision, comprising fully the local government areas of Manly, Warringah and Pittwater.

Suburbs covered by Raine & Horne Palm Beach include Palm Beach, Avalon, Bayview, Bilgola Plateau, Clareville, Newport and Whale Beach.

All are within close proximity to schools, casual and sophisticated dining, sporting clubs, hospitals and all the conveniences expected from an area this close to Sydney.

Palm Beach - Stretches from Barrenjoey Lighthouse in the north, to Careel Bay in the south. Boasts unique beauty. Water sports dominate the area. Features amazing properties. Restaurant choices range from casual to sophisticated. Palm Beach is the backdrop for television program Home and Away. The show is filmed early in the day to minimise disruption to locals. There are frequent buses to Sydney’s CBD, taking one to one and a half hours. Only a short ferry ride to Coasters Retreat, The Basin, Beach and Patonga.

Whale Beach  - Long been synonymous as a playground for the rich and famous. Pristine stretch of beach protected by a headland at both ends, giving a feeling of isolation and protection. Magnificent homes along the cliffs and escarpments, most with Pacific Ocean views. For most of the year it is somewhat deserted as many properties are holiday homes. The area comes alive at Christmas and school holidays. There are still some affordable homes just a few minutes’ walk from the beach. Whale Beach is popular for five-star fine dining, some with five star views. Less expensive options are also available. Whale Beach is about 40km from Sydney’s CBD and is serviced daily by RTA buses.

Avalon – A chic beachside suburb fiercely guarded by locals. Formerly a sleepy village, now a hive of activity, buzzing with café's, restaurants, gourmet delis, a cinema and an array of specialty shops. Avalon Rockpool is washed out by the ocean daily and is said to be one of Sydney's cleanest natural ocean pools. Angaphora Reserve is an area of natural bushland preserved by committed locals as a corridor for wildlife, in particular the local koala population.

Clareville - An upmarket, leafy suburb preferred by those seeking peace and quiet, and a strong affinity with nature. Clareville real estate, particularly tightly-held waterfront properties, is somewhat expensive. There are still some reasonably priced family homes, and original cottages offer potential for further improvement and capital gain. Most have been designed to blend with the bush surrounds, many with filtered Pittwater views. Clareville is home to the biggest Angophora tree in NSW and can be seen in Angophora Reserve.

Bilgola - Homes in this secluded, semi tropical enclave are highly sought after yet rarely offered for sale. When they do come onto the market they are snatched up quickly, and priced well into the millions. There are only five homes uniquely positioned on the beachfront, some have been in the same family for decades. Perched above Bilgola Beach along The Serpentine are stunning homes featuring sensational views down the Northern Beaches coastline all the way to Manly. There is also the family orientated community of Bilgola Plateau. Perched high above Avalon and Newport, ‘The Plateau’, holds the commanding position of surveying the Northern Beaches and Barrenjoey Peninsula from all four compass points. The Plateau is well serviced by public buses and features two local shopping centres, a public school and several kindergartens. It is only a short drive down the hill to the Avalon shopping village or into Newport.

Bungan Beach – Isolated by a steep hillside, Bungan Beach is hidden from the main road and accessible only by a walking track. There are no public parking facilities, making it less crowded than other beaches. Homes situated high above the beach, dotted along the escarpment, offering spectacular ocean views. There are few original cottages left as most have made way for magnificent homes designed to take advantage of the Pacific Ocean vista. Bungan Beach is conveniently located close to both Newport and Mona Vale shopping centre, as well as the popular Newport Arms Hotel.

Bayview - A tranquil and exclusive suburb offering both waterside and rural style niches. Features great facilities including power boat and yachting marinas, private schools, tennis clubs, the prestigious Bayview Golf Club and Winnererremy Bay Parkland. Only a few minutes from Mona Vale and its shopping village, and express buses to Sydney city.
