R&H Suburb Profile GISBORNE
Gisborne is an historic and attractive town in the Mt Macedon Hills, 55km north-west of Melbourne. Its countryside location and proximity to Melbourne have made it an increasingly popular place to live.
Gisborne is an attractive settlement, with street plantings of European trees, which are at their best in spring and autumn. The town is 1km west of the highway and 610m above sea-level. It was originally an agricultural district but it is now principally a commuter suburb for Melbourne.
Gisborne has a primary and a secondary school.
The Olde Time Market operates on the first Sunday of the month at the corner of Aitken and Hamilton Streets from October to May. An indoor market runs all year in the shopping centre.
The botanic gardens include a New Zealand corner which reflects the relationship with the sister town of Gisborne in the Shaky Isles. Wineries are also nearby.
